  • VST Review: RolandCloud JV-1080. 2/3/2018 0 Comments One of my most successful YouTube videos is, instead of one of my songs, a demo video I made of the Roland JV-2080 (viewable at the bottom of this post), a synthesizer I since sold in favor of the XV-3080. While there are no plans to make VST’s officially of either model to my knowledge.

With 10 splendid film scores represented, it would be crass to complain about the scores left out of this collection of film music by Maurice Jarre performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by either Nic Raine or Paul Bateman. After all, how many people know or care about the 21 scores Jarre composed for French films before he won an Academy Award for Lawrence of Arabia? And while some listeners may miss his music for The Longest Day or Jacob's Ladder or The Dead Poet's Society, most will be pleased and satisfied by the well-chosen excerpts contained here. Indeed, with the thundering drums and heroic harmonies of Lawrence of Arabia, the wordless choir and radiant melodies of Prelude and The Birth of Christ from Jesus of Nazareth, the jaunty march and witty juxtapositions of The Man Who Would Be King, and the closing sweeping strings and romantic theme of Doctor Zhivago, Jarre's best work is all here in well-played, convincingly conducted, and superbly recorded performances. Fans of the composer who don't have the time or interest to dig into the full soundtracks will get their fill here, while film music fans who don't already know Jarre's music will get a fine introduction to his work.

Hey guys, I am starting to learn MIDI and need some help. My main board is a Yamaha MOX8 it has several modes of operation including 'Master Mode' in master mode, it will send/receive MIDI control messages and controls how the MOX8 responds to MIDI. My goal is to set up my MOX8 to send program change messages to my Roland JV-1080 synth module on one MIDI channel, and have the JV1080 respond to key on/off commands from another MIDI keyboard controller on another channel. Looking through the manuals it sure looks like this is possible, but I haven't been able to make it work. Putting it another way, can I daisy chain my keyboard controller, MOX8, and JV1080 in a way that when I change songs on my MOX8, it tells the JV1080 what patch to play, and then play that patch through my keyboard controller? This way I could, lets say, have a piano on the MOX8 and a synth pad on the keyboard controller, switch songs on the MOX8 and have a different set of patches to play for the next song. Any help would be great!
